Page 1 of 2 Patient Care By the end of training, the resident will: - Perform and document a complete history and physical appropriate to the clinical situation.
- Formulate a complete differential diagnosis and utilize appropriate diagnostic testing to make an accurate diagnosis
- Develop and implement a care plan for each patient based on their clinical problem and stratified by acuity of disease.
Medical Knowledge By the end of training, the resident will: - Learn the diagnosis, complications and management of common Internal medicine illnesses in the various settings in which they practice - hospital, cinic, intensive care unit, emergency department.
- Recognize, elicit and understand the pathophysiologic basis of common physical findings.
- Understand and utilize appropriate care guidelines as they pertain to specific diagnoses.
Communication By the end of training, the resident will: - Be able to negotiate a plan of care that accounts for the wishes and preferences of patients and their family members.
- Have a broad repertoire of communication styles to allow one to work productively with many different people and situations.
- Understand one's own personal reactions to different situations and have a strategy for responding to them.
