Time Off
- Residents are granted 15 days of paid vacation per year. Weekend days off are not counted as vacation and are added on to each end of the vacation days. In addition, workdays are re-arranged during the holidays (or last eight days of December) to provide 4 consecutive days off.
- Residents may qualify for up to five weekdays of paid education leave per year.
- Residents are entitled to up to 14 paid sick days per year for acute illness, injury or approved medical leave.
- Residents are allowed to take up to 12 weeks of leave per twelve month period for approved family leave or medical leave. Twenty-eight days of paid leave are allowed for approved family or medical leave.
- The American Board of Internal Medicine's policy on Leave of Absence and Vacations states: "Trainees may take up to one month per year of training for vacation, parental or family leave, or illness (including pregnancy-related disabilities). Training must be extended to make up any absences exceeding one month per year of training. Vacation leave is essential and cannot be forfeited."
Insurance
- Legacy Health System provides full health and dental insurance coverage for each resident and clinical fellow and his/her dependents. Legacy pays the monthly premium; the resident or fellow pays a nominal monthly fee.
- No additional fee for the coverage of residents' eligible dependents.
- Life and disability insurance premiums are paid for all residents. Additional coverage may be purchased for the resident and his/her dependents for a reasonable monthly fee.
- The Legacy Flexible Spending Plan allows residents to save pre-tax dollars for reimbursement of eligible out-of-pocket healthcare and dependent care expenses.
- Residents are covered for professional liability insurance through Legacy Health System. This coverage is provided for all approved rotations, but does not provide coverage for independent moonlighting activities outside the scope of the training program.
Other Benefits
- Legacy employees receive a discount at the following daycare centers : Village Children (near Emanuel Hospital), KinderCare (NW Portland, Meridian Park and Salmon Creek facilities)
- Each resident receives his/her own copy of the MKSAP during the second year of training in anticipation of the upcoming Board exam.
- Short-term counseling is available, at no cost.
- Legacy covers the cost of mandatory resident education such as Basic and Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification.
- Employee fitness centers are located on both Legacy Good Samaritan and Legacy Emanuel Hospital campuses. Legacy will cover the initiation fee for each resident; the small monthly fee is the responsibility of the resident. Membership is provided upon request.
- Annual ACP (American College of Physicians) membership dues are paid by the program for each resident. The membership includes the Annals of Internal Medicine and the ACP Journal Club publication
- Lunch is provided daily at noon conference.
- Parking is free at both hospital campuses.
