At the Legacy Internal Medicine Residency Program, we emphasize academic excellence throughout the training experience, and offer a learning environment that balances the personal and professional needs of our house staff.

Residents are exposed to a diverse learning environment that includes two hospitals and five clinics. All the hospitalist physicians that interact with residents are core teaching faculty for the inpatient resident service . All our learning environments feature an electronic medical record, and our residents have access to a large online knowledge base, including UpToDate, MD Consult, OVID and online journals on computers throughout the hospitals and clinics.

We have an outstanding faculty with interests in topics as diverse as clinical decision making, medical informatics, and sleep medicine. When they are not working, they pursue equally diverse interests – from sudoku to visiting estate sales.

Visiting professors are supported by a well-endowed visiting professor fund, and nationally known scholars visit regularly to interact with our residents.

We have a high degree of resident and faculty camaraderie and collegiality, and feature a robust resident well-being program with quarterly retreats, and a family-friendly schedule.

Medical scholarship

We value the scholarship and quality improvement that our residents complete. Legacy Research offers abundant research opportunities, and our residents have published in the New England Journal of Medicine and other prestigious journals.

The medical scholarship program increases our residents' familiarity with clinical research methodology and application of the medical literature. Residents are required to:

  • Conduct a medical scholarship project on a topic of their choice
  • Work with a team on a quality improvement project
  • Deliver a Senior Grand Rounds presentation
